The president of the Screen Actors Guild expressed confidence on Tuesday that all issues standing in the way of a merger between SAG and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists will be resolved by the end of January. Emerging from a meeting with his AFTRA counterparts, SAG President Ken Howard told the Los Angeles Times that he expects a merger agreement will be completed by January 22 and submitted for ratification by the membership of each union. "I'm optimistic that its going to get done," Howard told the newspaper, although he declined to discuss details of meetings between the unions that began on Sunday. The Times said that the negotiators have not yet decided what the new union will be called.
