The merger of the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists in to a single union called SAG-AFTRA left one major question unresolved What will the SAG Awards show now be called? Well, for next year at least, it will continue to be called the SAG Awards, according to Daily Variety. The 2013 awards ceremony (AFTRA has never had a similar one) is due to be held on Jan. 27, four weeks ahead of The Oscars, which are scheduled to be held on Feb. 24. A spokesperson for SAG-AFTRA told Variety that the union "has domestic and international contracts in place [with TBS and TNT] for an established televised event entitled the Screen Actors Guild Awards or SAG Awards ." Variety noted, however, that the current contract expires next year and a name change could occur the following year. Presumably it could also be accompanied by a change in the award categories to honor performances in television and cable as well.
