Sean Combs - Sean Combs Settles Club Shooting Lawsuits
Sean Combs has settled a multi-million dollar legal battle with a number of partygoers who were injured in an infamous club shooting in New York in 1999.
The star and his then-girlfriend Jennifer Lopez hit headlines when they were arrested following the incident at Club New York more than a decade ago, and his protege Jamal 'Shyne' Barrow served nearly 10 years behind bars on charges relating to the shooting.
Combs was cleared of any wrongdoing in the criminal case, but both he and Barrow, as well as the now-defunct club's owners, were targeted in lawsuits by those who were hurt, including Natania Reuben, who suffered severe facial injuries and filed a $130 million (£81 million) legal battle for compensation in 2008.
A new reports suggests all of the lawsuits were settled earlier this year (11) and the terms of the deal were bound by a confidentiality agreement.
Former Club New York owner Michael Bergos, who did not sign the confidentiality agreement, tells the New York Post Reuben received $1.8 million (£1.1 million) in the settlement, while two clubgoers received sums of $500,000 (£312,500) and $50,000 (£31,25).
Bergos tells the publication he refused to accept the non-disclosure deal because "I did nothing wrong and I may need to talk about (the incident) sometime in the future," while Reuben's lawyer, Debra Reiser, adds, "My client wanted the confidentiality agreement because she didn't want any further publicity. She's been victimised enough."
