Seann William Scott has signed up for Hockey movie 'Goon'.

The 'American Pie' actor will star alongside Canadian star Jay Baruchel in the hockey comedy, written by Baruchel and Evan Goldberg.

The movie is based on the book 'Goon: The True Story of an Unlikely Journey into Minor League Hockey' by Doug Smith and Adam Frattasio', and tells the tale of a bouncer who joins a lowly hockey team, leading them to new-found success.

Alison Pill and Marc-Andre Grondin have also signed up to the sports comedy, which begins shooting in Canada later this month, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Michael Dowse - most famed for his work on 2004 comedy 'It's All Gone Pete Tong' - will direct the project.

Seann's career has been relatively quiet in recent years, although he has had a consistent role voicing Crash in the 'Ice Age' movies and video games.

He was last seen in Kevin Smith's 'Cop Out' alongside Bruce Willis.
