Kristin Davis has joined the cast of 'Journey 2: The Mysterious Island'.

The 45-year-old actress - who is most noted for her role as CHARLOTTE YORK in 'Sex And The City' - will star opposite Michael Caine and DWAYNE 'THE ROCK' JOHNSON in New Line's sequel to 'Journey to the Center of the Earth 3-D', in which she will play a love interest for leading man Johnson.

Kristin - who has already begun shooting the film in Hawaii - will also play the mother of Josh Hutcherson's character Sean Anderson, who is the only returning role in the sequel.

Meanwhile, 'High School Musical' beauty Vanessa Hudgens is believed to be in the final stage of negotiations to play the female lead in the film, which will see the characters embark on a trip to a mythical island.

'The Mysterious Island' is loosely based on a Jules Verne novel, and is to be directed by 'Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore' mastermind Brad Peyton.

With September 2011 currently being eyed as a release date, the film is being produced by Beau Flynn and Tripp Vision of Contrafilm.
