'Real Steel' director Shawn Levy is set to work on a prequel to the classic tale of 'Pinocchio', titled 'The Three Misfortunes of Geppetto'.
Shawn Levy is set to direct a 'Pinocchio' prequel.
The 'Real Steel' filmmaker has signed up to 'The Three Misfortunes of Geppetto', written by Michael Vukadinovich and housed at 20th Century Fox.
The story tells the tale of Pinocchio's creator and his life of misfortune to be with his love Julia Moon, and is said to have a similar feel to 'The Princess Bride' and 'Big Fish', Deadline.com reports.
It is one three projects currently underway focussing on the tale of the boy whose nose grows when he lies - Guillermo Del Toro is set to work on a 3-D stop motion animation project based on the character, while Tim Burton is also planning to direct a live-action version.
It will be another project with Fox for Shawn, who is also set to work on the Max Landis-scripted movie 'Frankenstein' soon.
His best known previous work includes 'Date Night', 'Night at the Museum' and 'Cheaper by the Dozen'.
Shawn's 'Real Steel' - starring Hugh Jackman and Evangeline Lily in a future world of robot boxing - spent its second week at number one in the US box office this week, and has so far earned $51.7 million for DreamWorks/Disney.
A sequel is already planned for the film, with the cast all set to return.
