Sherman Hemsley - Sherman Hemsley's Burial Delayed Over Will Dispute
Actor Sherman Hemsley's burial has been delayed until a local court rules on the validity of the actor's will.
The Jeffersons star died at his home in El Paso, Texas in July (12) after being struck down with cancer, but his body will remain at a funeral home in the city while his last will and testament is contested.
Hemsley signed his will six weeks before his death and he named his friend/manager Flora Enchinton, 56, as sole beneficiary of his estate, which is estimated to be worth around $50,000 (£31,250), but a man claiming to be the actor's brother has put in a claim.
Richard Thornton, of Philadelphia, is contesting the will and Hemsley won't be laid to rest until the dispute is resolved as Thornton is requesting possession of his body, as well as his belongings.
Enchinton insists she is furious about the situation, telling U.S. news website Kvia.com, "It is disgraceful. It is sad. This was a man with dignity... I have never heard of anyone with the name of Richard Thornton in the 20 years I have known Sherman. This is not what Sherman would have wanted."
