Brit Simon Cowell has been signed up by US TV network Fox to present another five seasons of American Idol.

Fans feared Cowell would abandon the hit show after the programme's creator Simon Fuller filed a lawsuit accusing him of copying the show's format for his British show The X Factor.

However, the feuding pair this week (begs28NOV05) reached an out-of-court settlement, and decided to continue their award-winning collaboration.

Fuller says, "Simon Cowell is a key component of the incredible success of American Idol. I'm delighted that we'll continue working as a team."

Cowell released a statement saying, ""It is a personal thrill for me to play a role in giving the best young singers in America a shot at realising their dreams."
