Actress Siobhan Fallon Hogan has expressed her sympathy for her troubled former co-star Shia LaBeouf following his dramatic arrest at a Broadway theatre last week (ends27Jun14).

The Transformers star pleaded not guilty to charges of disorderly conduct and criminal trespass on Friday (27Jun14), the morning after he had to be hauled out of the Studio 54 venue for allegedly causing a disruption and smoking during a Thursday night (26Jun14) performance of Michelle Williams and Alan Cumming's musical Cabaret.

Reports suggest LaBeouf had been boozing in the area in the hours leading up to the theatre arrest and video footage of the 28 year old acting bizarrely in New York's Times Square has since been obtained by editors at the New York Post, depicting him appearing to chase a homeless man around.

Now Hogan, who worked with LaBeouf in 2003 Disney film Holes, has spoken out about the actor's behaviour, suggesting his actions are the result of growing up under the intense media spotlight.

She says, "I think there's a ton of pressure when you're in the acting business. It's hard growing up acting - being a child actor. There's pressure to act the right way.

"And there's so much attention from the press that, if you make one wrong move, it's under a microscope. I can see that being hard for him."

Meanwhile, Scottish actor Cumming, in character as the German Emcee of the Kit Kat Klub, poked fun at LaBeouf's arrest during Friday night's performance of Cabaret by bringing an audience member up onstage to be his dance partner during the second act and quipping, "It's a good thing you're not 'Shy-A!'"

LaBeouf, who is due back in court on 24 July (14), has raised concerns about his well-being in recent months after walking the red carpet at a film festival in Germany wearing a brown paper bag on his head, while he also became part of an odd art installation in Los Angeles and announced plans to retire from public life.
