Sir Paul McCartney's wife Heather Mills MCCARTNEY has launched a new campaign to ban Chinese imports of dog and cat fur from the European Union (EU).

The former model, who is also a prominent spokeswoman for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), has recruited a host of celebrities to lend their support to her crusade to outlaw the "barbaric trade".

She says, "Consumers are being duped by this barbaric trade and it is disgusting that the fashion industry is using fur from cats and dogs. Sadly it is cheaper to kill cats and dogs in China and dye their fur, than it is to produce fake fur."

SIR Elton John, Phil Collins, George Michael, Brian Wilson, Eddie Murphy, Paul Newman and Bryan Adams have all pledged their support.
