Sir Paul McCartney capped off an incredible week on Friday night (10Feb12) as stars including Katy Perry and Coldplay paid tribute to the beatle at the MusiCares' 2012 Person of the Year gala.
The British icon, who unveiled his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday (09Feb12), was the toast of Hollywood at the glitzy bash, which was put on by organisers of the Grammy Awards.
MCCartney opened the show with a rendition of Magical Mystery Tour, while Perry sang a rendition of his hit track Hey Jude.
Other performers included Neil Young, who teamed up with his backing band Crazy Horse for the first time since 2004 to sing I Saw Her Standing There.
Alicia Keys took to the piano to belt out Blackbird, while fellow British rockers Coldplay showed off their take on We Can Work it Out at the Los Angeles bash, which was hosted by comedian Eddie Izzard.
During the evening, MCCartney told the audience, "For me, obviously it's great to hear these fantastic artists singing my songs."
The gala raised $6.5 million (£4.1 million) following a live auction. The sale included a red and blue piano which had been painted by Peter Max for MCCartney's former bandmate Ringo Starr, which sold for $175,000 (£109,375).
