American TV series Six Feet Under will end after the upcoming fifth season, the show's creator Alan Ball has confirmed.

Ball, who is also executive producer on the black comedy, has told American cable network HBO (HOME BOX OFFICE) he believes the show will have run it's creative course by next year's (05) finale.

Ball tells trade paper HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, "Working on Six Feet Under has been enormously fulfilling creatively, but if the show is about anything, it's about the fact that everything comes to an end.

"I will miss working with such enormously talented writers, cast, staff and crew and I'll always be grateful to HBO for allowing and encouraging us to tell the story we set out to tell in a challenging and uncompromising way."

The story of the FISHER family struggling to run a Pasadena, California funeral home after the death of patriach NATHANIEL was a critical success when it debuted in 2001.

The show has won seven Emmy Awards and been nominated in 39 categories.

It stars Peter Krause, Michael C Hall, Rachel Griffiths, Lauren Ambrose and Frances Conroy.
