Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan suffered an embarrassing technical problem onstage in New York on Monday night (26Jul10) - his guitar broke just two songs into the band's set.
The group played at the city's Terminal 5 venue as part of Spin magazine's 25th anniversary celebrations.
But the performance came to an abrupt halt during a rendition of Ava Adore when Corgan's instrument malfunctioned.
The rocker wandered off stage in search of help, but when no one came to his assistance he put down his guitar and led the audience by clapping along to the tune.
A guitar technician soon ran onto the stage to fix the instrument and the show was able to proceed, according to the New York Daily News.
The day after the show (27Jul10), the band played a benefit concert to raise money for Madina Lake rocker Matthew Leone's medical care. The musician was attacked and knocked unconscious after he attempted to break up a violent domestic dispute between two strangers at the beginning of the month (Jul10).
