Kasabian will never tire of winning awards.

The 'Rewired' band were named Best British Band at the NME Awards last night (29.02.12) and despite picking up numerous accolades during their career, they will always celebrate each prize.

Speaking about the award - which was sponsored by Sonos - guitarist Serge Pizzorno said: ''We're not put on this planet for long, so why would you come here and not go, 'YES! We're the best band in Britain', and not celebrate? It would be worthless and everyone would say, 'Did they not realise?' ''

Kasabian beat off competition from Arctic Monkeys, Biffy Clyro, Foals and Muse to land the prize - and singer Tom Meighan used their acceptance speech to pay tribute to The Monkees lead singer Davy Jones, who died from a heart attack earlier in the day.

He said: ''Thank you, thank you, thank you. Listen before I go any further we lost a legend tonight Davy Jones from The Monkees died tonight - 66. This is for Davy Jones.''

Tom then sang lines from the theme song from 'The Monkees' TV show, before saying ''God bless Davy Jones.''
