OSCAR-winning composer JERRY GOLDSMITH died at his Los Angeles home yesterday (21JUL04). He was 75.

The Star Trek music supremo had fought a long battle with cancer but died peacefully with his wife CAROL at his side.

Goldsmith carved out an illustrious career that spanned five decades, with highlights including his scores for CHINATOWN, Alien and Poltergeist.

He was presented with an ACADEMY AWARD in 1976 for his work on The Omen score and won EMMYS for STAR TREK: VOYAGER and Babe.

In recent years he has worked on pieces for The Mummy, La Confidential and Basic Instinct.

Goldsmith leaves behind his wife, their five children, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
