LATEST: The White House political adviser who was found dead at Star Wars actress Carrie Fisher's Los Angeles home last month (28FEB05) after an Oscars after-party died of a drugs overdose.

ROBERT STEVENS, 42, who played a key role in US President George W Bush's 2004 re-election campaign, suffered heart failure after taking a cocktail of cocaine and prescription painkillers, according the Los Angeles Coroner's Office.

Stevens, whose death was ruled as "accidental", suffered from a pre-existing heart condition and had a long history of drug abuse.

Stevens co-chaired the entertainment task force for the Bush-CHENEY re-election campaign aimed at bringing the Republican party and the California entertainment industry closer together.
