Star Wars creator George Lucas has hit out at the media for branding him a recluse on the basis he doesn't attend every Hollywood party.

The mastermind behind the legendary sci-fi series admits he's shy in nature, but his hermit reputation is a gross exaggeration - because he's often mingling with the rich and famous at glitzy functions.

He says, "Anyone in the film business who doesn't go to every single party is called reclusive. I am shy but then so are about half the people in the world.

"If you put me in a room with a bunch of people my tendency is not to rush over and shake everyone's hand."
