Veteran British rockers Status Quo have scrapped a string of live shows after singer/guitarist Rick Parfitt was taken ill on Friday (01Aug14).

The Whatever You Want hitmakers are currently touring Europe and were due to perform in Pula, Croatia on Saturday (02Aug14), but cancelled the show, along with five more planned in Germany, Switzerland and Monte Carlo, Monaco, after 65-year-old Parfitt was hospitalised on Friday and kept under observation overnight.

In a post on the band's Facebook.com page, manager Simon Porter writes, "The band do not cancel shows lightly, as any of our fans will tell you, but in this instance we have no option but to follow medical advice."

The exact nature of Parfitt's health woes is not known, but he had a quadruple heart bypass in 1997 and cancelled a tour in 2005 to undergo tests for suspected throat cancer. Further details are expected to be released next week (begs04Aug14).

Parfitt's son, also named Rick, took to his Twitter.com blog on Saturday and wrote, "Hi all,...just to say that Dad is ok, but he has to stop thinking he is invincible that is all I can say right now. #WorriedandUpset."

A post on the band's website lists a show in Nottingham, England on 15 August (14) as the group's next scheduled performance.
