Superstar Sting is set to change the words of The Police's smash hit EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE for his appearance at one of the forthcoming Live 8 charity concerts.

The English rocker, 53, will rewrite several sentences in the 1983 classic tune, to place pressure on the world leaders to end poverty in Africa.

Sting will join Mariah Carey, Sir Paul McCartney, SIR Elton John, JOSS STONE and Madonna at the London leg of the Live 8 gigs, which are also being held simultaneously in Paris, Rome, Berlin and Philadelphia.

He explains, "They have asked me to sing a version of Every Breath... to the words, 'We'll be watching you' which is exactly what we will be doing to the world leaders.

"BOB (GELDOF) called me about two weeks ago. I think he spoke for about 30 minutes before I had the chance to say yes. I adore him because he's so honest and passionate. I would follow him anywhere."

It has been rumoured Sting's re-working of the song is being considered as the official Live 8 anthem.
