Adele will be awarded an MBE at Buckingham Palace on Thursday (19.12.13).

The 'Someone Like You' hitmaker who was named in the Queen's Birthday Honours list in June this year for her services to the music industry will be given the title Miss Adele Adkins MBE (Most Excellent Order of the British Empire).

The 25-year-old singer - who was catapulted to the spotlight following the success of her debut album '19' in 2008 - has received widespread success following the release of her second album '21' in early 2011.

The record topped the charts in more than 30 countries and was number one in the UK for 23 weeks, selling more than seven million copies in the country.

It was certified diamond after 24 weeks at the top spot in the US.

She is also the first female in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 to have three singles in the top 10 at the same time as a lead artist.

Adele also won an Academy Award in February for her James Bond theme song 'Skyfall' which she both wrote and produced.

The star is currently busy preparing for the festive season and is set to be celebrating Christmas with her 14-month-old son Alfred and fiancé Simon Konecki at their Brighton home.
