Amber Heard has been bonding with Johnny Depp's children.

The 28-year-old star has been spending an increasing amount of time with her fiancé's daughter Lily-Rose, 14, and 12-year-old son Jack - his kids with ex-wife Vanessa Paradis - and has become a ''true'' part of the family.

A source told RadarOnline.com: ''It took Johnny a long time to get to this point with the kids, but this spring has marked Amber becoming a true part of the family and being involved with the upbringing of Johnny's kids - albeit on a somewhat limited basis.

''Amber sees Johnny's children nearly every weekend Johnny does, especially when they're in Los Angeles and not working on sets.''

Johnny, 51, has been encouraging them to develop their relationship as stepmother and stepchildren and has even been setting up ''weekend getaways'' so the trio can get to know each other.

The source added: ''Johnny has gotten in the habit of setting up remote weekend getaways with Amber and the kids, and usually he will lease a helicopter and have them all ferried to a remote location or resort in Southern California.''

Even though the couple are busy with Johnny has been filming the Whitey Bulger biopic 'Black Mass' in Boston and Amber shooting 'The Adderall Diaries' in New York, they make an effort to spend time with Lily-Rose and Jack doing ''usual activities''.

The source added: ''When they're not on set, Johnny stays close to town, but he doesn't just want to do the usual activities with the kids like their mum Vanessa does during the week.

''He's very much about showing them an adventure and a good time, and Amber has been 100 per cent behind this all the way.''
