Arctic Monkeys' Alex Turner feels he ''flourishes'' writing about girls.

The 'R U Mine?' group rose to prominence with their disco-romance track 'I Bet That You Look Good on the Dancefloor' and the singer is in his element when writing about the opposite sex.

He said: ''I suppose it's because I haven't figured out how to write about... I dunno, the mountain. Writing about girls is where I feel I can flourish, I suppose.''

The pinnacle of the band's career so far has been performing at the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony for, playing one of their songs and a cover of The Beatles' 'Come Together' to an audience including Queen Elizabeth, but the band weren't nervous before going on stage.

Alex explained to Q magazine: ''One minute before, we sort of made a conscious decision to make it amazing. It was as simple as that. We were waiting in the wings and it was like, 'This is going to be perfect.' And it sort of was really.''

Bass player Nick O'Malley added: ''We were like, 'let's just f***ing do this.' We know we can play these songs. It's obviously scary that you're playing a Beatles song and Sir Paul McCartney [of the band] is there. But forget that. Let's just be good at it. It were stupid, but it helped us.''
