The Nashville, Tennessee bar owner who allegedly shot and killed country singer Wayne Mills during an argument last month (Nov13) has been charged with second-degree murder.

Christopher Ferrell reportedly told police he acted in self-defence after a heated confrontation with the musician, who had flouted no-smoking rules at the Pit and Barrel venue on 23 November (13).

Mills was admitted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center after the shooting, but was later pronounced dead.

Cops launched an investigation into the incident and Ferrell was indicted by a grand jury on Friday morning (06Dec13). He turned himself in to authorities that afternoon, when his bail was set at $300,000 (£200,000).

Ferrell's lawyer, David Raybin, says, "We deny that Mr. Ferrell is guilty of any degree of homicide, much less murder. We will vigorously contest the charges."

A memorial service for Mills is set to take place at the Arab High School auditorium in his native Arab, Alabama on Sunday (08Dec13).
