Brian May has had ''good reports'' back after undergoing several tests for cancer over the festive period.

The 66-year-old guitarist - who had a knee replacement last year - was urged to go for MRI scans last month to ''rule out various kinds of cancer'' after he complained of agonising pain his back.

However, the Queen legend took to his website, Brianmay.com, over the weekend to reassure fans that although he still hasn't received a diagnosis for the pain he has been experiencing, doctors have ruled out the illnesses that they were initially worried about.

He said: ''Basically I am still in diagnostic-land, but hopefully not for much longer.''

He added: ''Basically all the tests I've had have come back with good reports, and so most of the ills that were possibilities a couple of weeks ago are now ruled out.''

Brian underwent a biopsy last Friday (10.01.14) after doctors had spotted some ''small possible problem areas'' on his prostate and he is expected to get the results back later this week.

He wrote: ''I was unconscious for most of it, and it wasn't as bad as I expected! I'll get the results next week, and then things should hopefully be much clearer.''

Brian - who is married to former 'EastEnders' actress Anita Dobson - has been inundated with messages of goodwill since he revealed the news and he thanked his fans last month for their support.
