Cate Blanchett's secret to beautiful skin is a good night's sleep.

The 44-year-old star - who is Global Ambassador for luxury skincare brand SK-II - insists getting rest can help improve skin and also enjoys treatments like acupuncture which stimulates certain parts of the body after penetrating needles through the skin.

She told the Daily Telegraph newspaper: ''Not to think about it too much to be honest and sleep. You can't turn back time but you can try and sleep longer.

''If your insides are healthy then your skin will be healthier. And that's why I think it's important to feed the base root of your skin not just the surface of it.

[I] love a bit of acupuncture and a good strong therapeutic massage....although it's not as regular as I like.''

Due to Cate's busy schedule she doesn't have enough time to apply make-up but insists she has picked up a few techniques by observing the way professionals apply products.

She said: ''I rarely have time for make-up. Anything I can put on in the car I'll use.

''Being on stage and also working with really great make-up artists such as Mary Greenwell and Morag Ross and Ginny Lebell, you do learn a few tricks and also you can change your face with shading.''
