Cate Blanchett turned the air blue at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) film awards on Sunday night (16Feb14) when she cursed while dedicating her best actress win to Philip Seymour Hoffman.

The actress took the honour for her role in Woody Allen's comedy Blue Jasmine, and she struggled to contain her emotion as she paid tribute to her late pal.

Blanchett honoured Hoffman's "monumental talent" before letting slip a curse word as she dedicated her award to the actor, who died from a suspected drug overdose earlier this month (Feb14).

She said, "I would like to dedicate this to an actor who has been a continued professional touchstone for me - the late, great Philip Seymour Hoffman. Phil, your monumental talent, your generosity, and your unflinching quest for the truth, both in art and life, will be missed, not only by me but by so many... Phil, buddy - this is for you, you b**tard! I hope you're proud."

The ceremony's host, writer/actor Stephen Fry, agreed with the tribute, adding, "Congratulations and fully endorsed."

She didn't turn the air blue nor did she curse, stop trying to twist things and create controversy. She gave a heartfelt and moving speech, and the entire theater was applauding and many teary.
