British singer Charlotte Church has spurned an offer to be a judge on The X Factor as she would rather "poke her eyes out" than be a part of the Tv talent show.

The Crazy Chick hitmaker shot to fame as a child opera singer before turning to a pop career in her teens, but she has no desire to mentor young hopefuls on the show, which she blasted as "the machine that kills music".

Church took to her Twitter.com page on Thursday (08Aug13) to share the news with fans writing, "I got asked to do The X Factor job. I'd rather poke my eyes out with sticks than be a part of the machine that kills music."

She later added that she met with bosses at ITv, the British Tv network behind the show, but felt unable to accept the offer as she would have no creative input of her own.

Church adds, "I had a meeting to ask about the level of involvement in the creative process I could have, and they basically said none... unless it was in line with what was required. I wanted to see just how hard line it was. I found my answer and politely declined."

The singer's admission comes just days after current long-term judge Louis Walsh announced he will be stepping down at the end of this season (13) after 10 years on the panel.
