Chris Hemsworth will appear in 'Vacation'.

The 'Thor' actor is believed to have joined the cast of the upcoming remake of the 1983 comedy - which sees a family embark on a cross-country expedition across the United States - alongside Christina Applegate and Ed Helms.

Chris, 31, will play anchorman Stone Crandall - who is married to the family's daughter, Audrey - while 'The Hangover' star Ed will play her brother Rusty Griswold, although other cast details are yet to be released.

Also set to join the star-studded cast is 'Horrible Bosses' star Charlie Day, while the original movies' leads Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo are tipped to be making a cameo.

John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are penning the script and are set to begin filming in September this year.

Meanwhile, Chris will also be appearing in the action-thriller 'Blackhat', drama 'Heart of the Sea' and the 2015 blockbuster 'Avengers: Age Of Ultron'.

Ed, 40, will appear in the action-comedy 'Stretch' as well the
