Comedian Craig Ferguson has revealed he and new Doctor Who Peter Capaldi spent a lot of their time "doing drugs" as bandmates in the 1980s.

The two Scots were members of punk group The Dreamboys, and never imagined they'd become Tv stars in America, where Ferguson has hosted his own late-night show for a decade and Capaldi is the latest Timelord.

And during Ferguson's visit to U.S. show Watch What Happens Live on Thursday (17Sep14), he fondly recalled his musical days as a drummer behind frontman Capaldi after host Andy Cohen showed off a promotional photo of their band.

Ferguson revealed, "We did a lot of drugs. We had every drug available... There wasn't much cocaine in Glasgow (Scotland), it was mostly speed or acid."

Now that both Ferguson and Capaldi have found fame, The Late Late Show host is still perplexed as to how they became well known entertainers, especially since they came from wild beginnings.

He explained, "I don't know, when the rest of the guys were going to either Emerson or Harvard, I was taking acid in the back of a van with the guy who ended up playing the Doctor. I don't know how it happened."
