Actor Damian Lewis is voicing his support for a campaign to find a cure for a rare skin condition.
The Homeland star became aware of recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (Rdeb), a painful genetic condition that causes blisters on the skin, when his daughter attended the same school as sufferer Sohana Collins.
Lewis is now a patron of the Sohana Research Fund, a charity launched by Collins' mother to raise money for clinical trials and tests in an effort to find a cure for the condition.
Appearing on British daytime Tv show This Morning on Thursday (11Dec13), alongside Collins and her mother, Lewis said, "As the Sohana Research Fund really started to take shape... I was asked to become a parton and having got to know Sohana a little bit at that point I decided it was absolutely something worth giving my time to...
"It is not a well known condition, so it is (about) spreading the word, backing it, trying to make people aware, and... the results of these trials and tests and the technology and the improvements that have been made to Sohana's skin can be used in other areas of medicine so it really is worth backing."
