Danny Dyer has been cast in hitman thriller 'Assassin'.

The British actor has landed the lead role in J.K. Amalou's London-based ''glossy action film'', playing a professional killer who realises his next victim is the estranged father of the girl he has fallen for.

Amalou has written the script and will co-produce alongside Jonathan Sothcott, who has already worked on revenge movie 'Vendetta' with Dyer, which saw the 35-year-old actor play a special operative interrogator who goes after a gang that killed his parents while avoiding being tracked down by his old unit.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sothcott said: ''J.K. [Amalou] has written a brilliantly slick script and I cannot wait to start work with him, he's a force of nature of a filmmaker. I look forward to continuing building the new Danny Dyer brand with 'Assassin' and 'Vendetta'.''

Amalou previously teamed up with Dyer on 2012's 'Deviation' and expressed his delight at working with the straight-talking star once again when filming kicks off in August.

Danny is famed for his gritty drama roles, but tried his hand at comedy with 'Run For Your Wife' last year, which saw cameo appearances from the likes of Dame Judi Dench.

He said: ''I loved it. It's a completely different film for me, I've never really done anything like that before. Just to be around the people that I was around - I love that lovey, thespian type of people. [It's] the ultimate British movie.''
