Veteran thespian Derek Jacobi was rushed to a hospital in a speed boat after suffering a nasty fall during a holiday in the Maldives.

The Gosford Park star was unable to walk when he ruptured tendons in his both legs after falling down stairs at luxury hotel Huvafen Fushi, and had to be taken to hospital on a neighbouring island by boat to receive emergency treatment before being flowing home to Britain for surgery.

The stage actor has kept his injury secret for six weeks, but Jacobi's civil partner Richard Clifford has now revealed the extent of his injuries.

Clifford tells Britain's Mail on Sunday newspaper, "At first he was unable to bend his knees but now he can flex them about 30 degrees. He has left hospital but will be in rehab for another six weeks. He is frustrated but in good spirits and looking forward to working on the next series of Last Tango (in Halifax). He needs sticks to get around but the doctors say he will make a full recovery."
