Doze Niu - Director Doze Niu Facing Prosecution In Taiwan
Acclaimed Taiwanese director Doze Niu is facing prosecution after allegedly using false papers to sneak a Chinese cinematographer onto a naval base in his home country to scout for film locations.
The Love moviemaker is accused of violating a law that bans Chinese nationals from entering Taiwanese military facilities, according to naval authorities.
Niu reportedly applied to military officials several times to get permission to take cinematographer Cao Yu with him to scout locations for his new movie Military Paradise at a naval base in Kaohsiung city, but was rejected.
Cao allegedly joined the rest of Niu's crew on the military base in June (13) using a Taiwanese citizen's identity card.
A statement from navy officials reads, "We regret the incident and we will punish those responsible according to the regulations. We will intensify checks on visitors to prevent similar cases from happening again."
Niu has since taken to his Facebook.com page in a bid to explain himself, writing, "I have the opportunity to reflect on myself after what happened recently. Filmmakers have often gone overboard and resorted to all possible means to make a great work and it's time to reflect."
