Abdellatif Kechiche - Director Takes Aim At Blue Is The Warmest Color Star Over Film Criticism
Abdellatif Kechiche, the director of acclaimed and controversial lesbian love story film Blue Is The Warmest Color, has attacked his star after she went public with her criticism of the movie.
The filmmaker has threatened legal action against actress Lea Seydoux in an open letter published on the Rue89 website on Wednesday (23Oct13), accusing her and French journalist Aureliano Tonet of making "slanderous" remarks about him.
In the missive, Kechiche calls his leading lady, who has criticised the director's shooting methods and insisted she will never work with him again, an "arrogant, spoiled child".
He writes, "Miss Seydoux, who after having repeatedly thanking (sic) me publicly and privately and having wept in my arms at Cannes for allowing her to take on this noble role... has, against all odds and all personal coherence, radically changed her attitude towards me.
"Thus, after having been celebrated and glorified thanks to the Palme d'Or won by Blue is the Warmest Color, she started to drag me through the mud with lies and exaggerations."
The director adds, "She knew her words were slanderous... (and) I will come back. It is for her to explain in court."
Meanwhile, attacking critic Tonet over an article in which he described the filmmaking process for Blue is the Warmest Color as brutaI, the director insists the journalist's remarks could have ruined his career had he not won the top prize at the Cannes Film Festival.
