Eddie Murphy is set to take Beverly Hills Cop back to the big screen just days after it was announced a Tv series based on the popular film franchise has been scrapped.

Murphy helped director Shawn Ryan develop the proposed series but the project was dropped by bosses at America's CBS network earlier this month (Jul13).

Ryan remained positive, telling fans on Twitter.com that executives at Paramount Pictures had decided to develop a movie based on the success of the culled series' pilot episode and the project is "moving fast".

Murphy is slated to reprise his role as street-smart detective Axel Foley for the new movie, and Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol screenwriters Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec have been hired to write the script, according to Deadline.com.

The original 1984 film shot to the top of the global box office and enjoyed equal success with two sequels in 1987 and 1994.
