The Nashville, Tennessee recording studio where Elvis Presley, Dolly Parton and Keith Urban recorded hit albums has been saved thanks to a star-studded campaign.

Sir Paul MCCartney and Dave Grohl were among the famous names that joined the fight to save RCA Studio A, which has just been taken over by Curb Records founder Mike Curb and a consortium of Nashville businessmen and philanthropists.

The deal reportedly closed on Tuesday afternoon (23Dec14).

Curb was among the city music bosses who fought to prevent a Tennessee condominium developer from taking over the property, which singer/songwriter Ben Folds has rented and operated for over a decade, and demolishing it.

The former politician previously purchased and restored Studio A's companion, RCA Studio B, as well as Columbia Studio A and the Quonset Hut, regarded by many as the birthplace of Nashville's fabled Music Row.

Chet Atkins co-founded Studio A in 1965.
