Singer Gilberto Man has been taken into custody by police in his native Cuba after fleeing U.S. authorities following an arrest for credit card fraud last year (14).

The reggaeton star, real name Gilberto Martinez Suarez, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Miami, Florida in September (14) on counterfeit credit card and identity theft accusations.

He and two assailants reportedly made over 176 transactions with more than 100 different credit cards, worth an estimated $150,000 (£93,750).

However, before prosecutors could officially file charges, Suarez posted bail and fled to Cuba, where he has been posting photos online showing off bundles of cash and luxury cars in his lavish home.

His case was recently brought to the attention of Cuban authorities, and cops reportedly used the information in a Florida newspaper article to plan a raid on Suarez's gated home in the town of Guanabacoa, just outside of Havana.

Few details about the arrest are known, but Barry Golden, spokesman for the U.S. Marshals Service in South Florida, says, "We don't know what happened or where he went to. It seems as though he was detained."

Florida prosecutors are now expected to seek his extradition.

The singer had previously been charged with a similar offence in 2013.
