Fox network executives and the producers of their hit series Glee said Thursday that they plan to devote the third episode of the new season to addressing the death last month of co-star Cory Monteith, who had played the character Finn Hudson on the series. Fox Entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly said at the Television Critics Association's summer tour that the first two episodes had already been developed as all-Beatles specials but that the third will explain how the Hudson character will be written out of the series and address the issue of drug addiction. Although he provided no details, Reilly said that it will deal directly with the incident involved in Cory's passing and include comments from cast members about addiction. Monteith himself had made several appearances on TV talk shows discussing his own struggles with substance abuse. He was found dead at age 31 in a Vancouver hotel room on July 13, a victim of a toxic combination of heroin and alcohol.
