Hatebreed bassist Chris Beattie has pulled out of the band's U.S. tour to undergo surgery following a freak gardening accident.

The heavy metal rocker is nursing a number of broken bones after he fell from a ladder while trimming a tree with a chainsaw on Monday (23Sep13).

Beattie explains, "A large branch fell off a tree I was cutting and knocked the ladder I was on out from under me. I fell eight feet off the ladder onto the sidewalk and luckily was able to throw the chainsaw away from me on the way down. I broke my left wrist and right elbow. I will be going 'under the knife' this Friday to correct the breaks and start the healing process."

Beattie is to be replaced by Shadows Fall bassist Matt Bachand as the band embarks on its The Divinity of Purpose tour, reports LoudWire.com.

He adds, "I look forward to getting back out on the stage as soon as I can."
