Actor James Franco has thrown his support behind a campaign seeking to land him his first Oscar.

Executives at A24 have launched a Twitter.com campaign to push voters to consider Franco's role as a drug dealer in Spring Breakers Oscar worthy for a Best Supporting Actor trophy - and Franco is backing the appeal.

Appearing on U.S. breakfast show Today on Monday (14Oct13), the actor, who was previously nominated for 127 Hours, said, "My favourite movie that I've done this year is Spring Breakers and they're doing... an Oscar campaign and it's a line from the movie, 'Consider this s**t'.

"So I just want to put that out there for Harmony Korine, the director, and the A24 people."
