Rapper Jay Z has been ordered to give a deposition as part of a contract and copyright infringement lawsuit filed by a man who designed the Roc-A-Fella logo.

Dwayne Walker sued the hitmaker, his former partner Damon Dash and executives at Universal Music Group in 2012 for $7 million (Gbp4.4 million) in unpaid royalties over the iconic symbol, which he created in 1995.

Last week (ends21Mar14), a Manhattan federal judge approved a petition by Walker to move forward with the discovery portion of his suit and have the parties deposed.

A statement from Walker's attorney Gregory Berry reads: "We are pleased with the court's order. For over 18 months Jay Z and the other defendants have done everything they can to avoid swearing under oath to the events that led to the creation of the logo. With the decision today, the defendants' delay tactics must stop, and Mr. Walker's quest for justice can move forward."

A partial motion filed by the defendants to dismiss one of Walker's claims is currently pending.
