Jenni Rivera's widower has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the owners of the jet which crashed and killed the singer in 2012.

The 43-year-old pop star died, along with six others, when the private plane they were travelling in went down in Mexico, and now her estranged husband has launched a legal battle with the Learjet's owners.

Former Los Angeles Dodgers baseball player Esteban Loaiza filed a wrongful death lawsuit at Los Angeles Superior Court, according to Billboard.com.

Rivera split from the former sports star before her death and filed for divorce just two months before the crash.

The lawsuit takes aim at the firm which owned the plane, Starwood Management, and its parent company, Rodatz Financial Group, and seeks unspecified damages.
