Jennifer Lawrence was surprised with 200 crickets as a joke following her Oscar win.

The 23-year-old screen beauty was the target of the prank by her 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire' co-star Jeffrey Wright who decided to trick her into receiving a box of creepy crawlies disguised as a congratulatory gift after she won the Academy Award for Best Female actress earlier this year.

Speaking at a press conference for the film in London this week, Jeffery told BANG Showbiz: ''Right after Jennifer won the Oscar I gave her a gift, of a Tiffany box filled with about 200 crickets.''

Unfortunately the prank back-fired on the 47-year-old actor, who had to sleep in a room full of insects after some of the crickets escaped.

He explained: ''What I didn't calculate was that when you try and stuff 200 crickets into a Tiffany box that many of them spill out into your hotel room and hop under your bed and behind your dresser. I couldn't sleep!''

Jennifer, 21, reprises her role as Katniss Everdeen in the 'Hunger Games: Catching Fire', while Josh Hutcherson returns as Katniss' love interest Peeta Mellark.
