Jennifer Lawrence has shot down rumours she deliberately fell over at the 2014 Oscar Awards.

The 23-year-old actress, who stumbled over a traffic cone shortly after arriving on the red carpet in March, insists she didn't fake the fall in a bid to gain attention.

Speaking in the new issue of America's Marie Claire magazine, she said: ''I'm trying to do the right thing, waving to fans, trying to be nice, and there's a traffic cone. The second I hit it, I was laughing, but on the inside I was like, 'You're f**ked. They're totally going to think this is an act'.''

However, the 'American Hustle' star can understand why people think she is tumbling over on purpose as she also slipped on her dress when she went to accept the Oscar for the best Actress at last year's Academy Awards as well.

But she claims: ''If I was going to plan it, I would have done it at the Golden Globes or the SAGs. I would have never done it at two Oscars in a row. I watch 'Homeland' -- I'm craftier than that!''
