Johnny Depp and a group of his Transcendence co-stars were busted for speeding while trying out a luxury electric sports car during filming.

The actor has revealed the movie's director Wally Pfister introduced him to Elon Musk, the head of the Tesla electric car company, and he went for a spin in one of the vehicles with pals including British stars Rebecca Hall and Paul Bettany.

However, the outing went awry when the car was pulled over by cops.

Depp is quoted by Britain's The Sun newspaper as saying, "I had one of the best experiences I've ever had. The director (Pfister) introduced me to Elon Musk at Tesla. He came and visited the set and we had a ride around in his car but then the police pulled us over. We had a first - maybe the first -Tesla jam.

"I was in the front seat while Paul Bettany was sitting on my lap. Rebecca (Hall) and Wally (Pfister) were in the back. Elon was driving and we were pulled over speeding (sic)... Elon had a good sense of humour about it. The cop did not. He needed a humour chip. But it was a good time, nonetheless."
