Actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt is set to produce a movie based on the Sandman comic book series.

The Dark Knight Rises star is teaming up with screenwriter David S. Goyer, who helped to pen the 2012 superhero movie, for the new adaptation.

Announcing the news on Twitter.com on Monday (16Dec13), Gordon-Levitt wrote, "Ladies and gentlemen, I'm incredibly honored to be working with David Goyer, Warner Bros... on Sandman."

According to Deadline.com, the actor is also reportedly contemplating directing and starring in the film as well, but for now, he is only producing.

He added, "Just to clarify, folks. I've signed on as a producer on Sandman. The rest remains to be seen. Delighted you guys are excited. I am too!"

Sandman tells the story of Morpheus, a personification of dreams, who escapes from captivity and struggles to rebuild his kingdom while trying to adapt to modern times.

Gordon-Levitt made his directorial debut in September (13) with Don Jon.
