Pop star Justin Timberlake has sealed his triumphant return to the charts by picking up six nominations for this year's (13) MTV Video Music Awards.

The Cry Me A River hitmaker began his stellar comeback earlier this (13) with the release of The 20/20 Experience, his first studio album in seven years, and the record has now garnered him a pile of nods for the annual Mtv prizegiving.

Timberlake is up for the coveted Video of the Year trophy, as well as Best Male Video, Best Pop Video and Best Editing for Mirrors, while his collaboration with rapper Jay Z, Suit & Tie, is also up for Best Collaboration and Best Direction.

The singer's main rivals at the ceremony are MACklemore & Ryan Lewis, who have also picked up six nods, including Video of the Year for Thrift Shop, Best Hip-Hop Video, Best Cinematography, Best Direction and Best Editing for Can't Hold Us, as well as Best Video with a Social Message.

Other acts to land nods include Bruno Mars, who is up for four awards, while Pink, Robin Thicke, Miley Cyrus and 30 Seconds To Mars have all been nominated in three categories.

The star-studded ceremony will take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on 25 August (13).
