Director Jeff Wadlow bears no ill will towards Jim Carrey, despite the fact the actor publicly refused to promote their new action comedy Kick-Ass 2 due to its "level of violence".

The Mask star portrays a vigilante named Colonel Stars and Stripes in the follow-up to Matthew Vaughn's 2010 hit, but he declared in June (13) that he could no longer support the project following the tragic shooting massacre at Connecticut's Sandy Hook Elementary School in December (12), when 20 children and six adults were killed by a lone gunman.

Taking to his Twitter.com blog, he told fans, "I did Kickass (sic) a month b4 (before) Sandy Hook and now in all good conscience I cannot support that level of violence.

"My apologies to others involve (sic) with the film. I am not ashamed of it but recent events have caused a change in my heart."

Wadlow has now opened up about Carrey's controversial comments as he prepares for the release of Kick-Ass 2, telling the Associated Press the comedian is an unpredictable soul: "You never know what he is going to do or say."

However, the filmmaker refuses to hold a grudge against Carrey as a result of the dispute and insists he would be happy to work with the star again because he is "fantastic" in the Kick-Ass sequel, which co-stars Chloe Grace Moretz and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
