Actor LEONARDO DiCaprio has donated $3 million (Gbp1.9 million) to ocean conservation organisation Oceana.
The Great Gatsby star's grant will be used to help support a campaign to ban the use of gill nets, which are used to capture fish, off the California coast.
A statement from the actor, reads, "Protecting our planet's oceans and the marine species that call it home is one of the most pressing sustainability crises facing humanity today and a moral imperative that we must acknowledge. It's my hope that this grant will help Oceana continue the tremendous work that they do daily on behalf of our oceans."
Oceana CEO Andy Sharpless, adds, "The foundation and Leo's support for campaigns like our efforts to ban the drift gill nets in California will help Oceana win more protections for countless sharks and other marine animals and for ocean habitats in the Pacific and Arctic - which include some of the most productive ocean places in the world..."
This isn't the first time the 39 year old, who is known for his philanthropic efforts, has donated funds to an animal organisation - in November (13), he gave $3 million (Gbp1.9 million) to the World Wildlife Fund .
