Liam Neeson's nephew has been hospitalised with a serious head injury in England after taking a fall during a drunken night out.

Ronan Sexton, the 31-year-old son of the Taken star's sister Bernadette Sexton, was celebrating a pal's 30th birthday on the Brighton Pier promenade in the early hours of Sunday (22Jun14) when he decided to climb atop a public telephone box.

However, disaster struck when he slipped and fell 20 feet (six metres) to the ground.

He was taken to a local medical centre, and has since been transferred to Hurstwood Park Hospital in West Sussex, where he remains in a critical condition.

A spokesman for Sussex police confirmed the incident to the DailyMail.co.uk, but revealed there will be no further investigation as there was nothing suspicious about the fall.

The news emerges five years after Neeson's wife, actress Natasha Richardson, suffered a traumatic brain injury following a 2009 skiing accident, and died at the age of 45.

The actor has been notified of his nephew's condition but has yet to officially comment.
